How Community Solar works

1

Sign up in as little as 5 minutes with your utility bill (to calculate your energy usage and savings).

2

Ampion will match you to a local solar farm and assigns you a share of the electricity it generates based on your typical usage.

3

The solar farm produces clean energy and delivers it to the grid, increasing the renewable energy available to Erie County.

4

Discounted Community Solar credits are applied to your bill each month based on your share of the solar energy produced, reducing your electricity costs.

Public benefit corporation

Ampion’s mission is to make it easy for everyone to access clean, renewable energy. As a Public Benefit Corporation, our success is defined by how well we serve the greater good, not just the profits we earn.

Questions about ECLIPSE?

Frequently-asked questions about the Erie County program.

What is ECLIPSE?

ECLIPSE stands for Erie County Low-Income Program for Sustainable Energy. It's a department within Erie County, New York. Erie County received a $1.5 million grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development (NYSERDA). ECLIPSE was created to offer low-income residents savings on electricity. Municipalities in Erie County can benefit, too.

Ampion is a Community Solar company that connects New York residents to solar farms and electricity savings. Erie County is partnering with Ampion to administer electricity savings through New York's Community Solar program.

When you sign up for Community Solar, you provide a copy of you electricity bill to be matched with a local solar farm. You are assigned a share of the energy produced by the solar farm based on your electricity usage. That “share” of energy appears on your electricity bill in the form of renewable energy credits. You save 10% on your renewable energy credits, lowering your electricity bills.

You can expect to save about 10% on electricity costs.

No. You will receive and pay your electricity bill as normal.

Yes, you will likely have to wait to see renewable energy credits on your electricity bill. While we do our best to match you to an active solar farm, there are limited spots available. We will notify you once your solar farm goes live and starts producing electricity.

Erie County residents who are receiving government assistance such as HEAP, Medicare, or SNAP are eligible. You must have an active electric utility account.

If you are moving within Erie County and within the same utility service territory, you can take your subscription with you! If you're moving to a different utility service territory within Erie County, please let us know 3 months before you move.
