What is community solar?
*Average annual savings for New York households. Actual savings can vary based on factors including usage and weather.
Instead of installing panels on your own rooftop, connect to a local solar farm and get the benefits of solar no matter where you live.
How it works:
We build community solar farms across New York, delivering clean, accessible energy to everyone.
We send the power produced from these projects into the grid and receive solar credits.
When you become a subscriber, we apply these solar credits to your monthly utility bill.
You pay this discounted utility bill through your same utility provider – no signup or cancellation fees.

Questions about ECLIPSE?
Frequently-asked questions about the Erie County program.
Who is Ampion?
Ampion is a Community Solar company that connects New York residents to solar farms and electricity savings. Erie County is partnering with Ampion to administer electricity savings through New York's Community Solar program.
How does Community Solar work?
When you sign up for Community Solar, you provide a copy of you electricity bill to be matched with a local solar farm. You are assigned a share of the energy produced by the solar farm based on your electricity usage. That “share” of energy appears on your electricity bill in the form of renewable energy credits. You save 10% on your renewable energy credits, lowering your electricity bills.
How much money will I save?
You can expect to save about 10% on electricity costs.
Will my utility company change?
No. You will receive and pay your electricity bill as normal.
Will I have to wait to see credits on my electricity bill?
Yes, you will likely have to wait to see renewable energy credits on your electricity bill. While we do our best to match you to an active solar farm, there are limited spots available. We will notify you once your solar farm goes live and starts producing electricity.
Who is eligible for ECLIPSE?
Erie County residents who are receiving government assistance such as HEAP, Medicare, or SNAP are eligible. You must have an active electric utility account.
What if I decide to move?
If you are moving within Erie County and within the same utility service territory, you can take your subscription with you! If you're moving to a different utility service territory within Erie County, please let us know 3 months before you move.
