We are seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the position of Market Development Manager - Maryland. You will reside in Maryland, leveraging your extensive relationships and relevant work experiences to have a significant and immediate impact in helping residential, low-income (LMI) and small commercial accounts in Maryland achieve their energy savings and sustainability objectives by bringing the benefits of community solar to targeted community partnerships, channel partners, affordable housing partners and directly to large national and regional small commercial accounts.

You are also responsible for Ampion’s overall kWh acquisition growth in Maryland and ensuring the company achieves our subscriber targets through the other acquisition methods and channels that you will coordinate and influence. As Ampion grows its presence in Maryland, the Market Development Manager guides our Maryland-based/dedicated Ampion employees who are acquiring subscribers while also ensuring channel partners / indirect sales channels deliver Maryland commitments. This role reports directly to the Director of Sales.

Core Responsibilities: As the Market Development Manager - Maryland for Ampion, you will:

  • Achieve sales goals determined by Ampion management team

  • Establish relationships and sign agreements with strategic partners (e.g. housing authorities, affordable housing and property management, community action groups and others), municipalities and traditional local channel partners who choose Ampion; and help Ampion acquire residential, LMI and small commercial customers

  • Drive revenue growth by originating leads and closing deals with national/regional small commercial subscribers in Maryland

  • Construct detailed go to market plans and tactics for Maryland; including defining customer segments, acquisition strategies, identifying target markets and partners, helping create subscriber agreements, partner/channel partner agreements, product terms & offer and coordinate with Marketing, Direct Sales, Indirect Sales, and other Ampion stakeholders on Maryland initiatives

  • Ensure kWh and subscriber acquisition target delivery in Maryland; through both direct management of assigned partners, assigned prospective small commercial customers, and through coordination and supporting the direct sales team, channel sales team, and other marketing and acquisition efforts in Maryland as needed

  • Maintain a clear and deep understanding of Ampion’s Client acquisition capacity and customer requirements, and utility market policy rules and programmatic conditions for the State of Maryland.

  • Establish clear KPIs and metrics to ensure success. You are capable of accurately forecasting on weekly, monthly and quarterly intervals and can manage your business to the achievement of sales targets.

  • Attend and participate in state and local industry and regulatory meetings and conferences

  • Work cross functionally with Marketing, Direct Sales, Indirect Sales, Sales Operations, Billing, Product & Technology, Accounting and Customer Care teams to ensure subscriber and channel satisfaction.

  • Look at operational data frequently - e.g. how are we allocating, should we consider more / less, etc, churn, and other drivers of overall commercial success for Ampion, our Clients and our Subscribers for Maryland.

Education, Skill, and Experience:

  • Tenacity and relentlessness is critical
  • Need to know the Maryland Community Solar program rules inside and out
  • Reside in Maryland and/or be committed to spending significant time in the market
  • A tremendous hunger for delivering results
  • Min 5 year Industry experience required: community solar, solar, competitive/retail energy or renewable energy; successful track record selling into affordable housing/property management, LMI communities and partners, and competitive/retail energy and selling into sustainability and ESG programs and leaders is desirable.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with direct sales and channel development & management is required
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves, understand the details of Ampion’s business, and drive the change together with the team
  • Comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of an early-stage startup; eager to lend a hand cross-functionally as required
  • Service leadership mentality of low ego and high empathy, committed to building a culture and organization capable of autonomy and growth
  • Deeply collaborative, but also possessing strength of conviction and ability to challenge and resolve competing points of view in transparent, constructive fashion
  • Impeccable communication and interpersonal skills

Other Responsibilities

  • Comply with Ampion Written Information Security Policy (WISP), Ampion Employee Guidelines and all other Ampion Information Security Policies and Procedures
  • Take responsibility for any Ampion assets assigned to you
  • Promptly report any security events, incidents or weaknesses to Ampion Security as outlined in the WISP
