Regulatory Policy Analyst

The Regulatory Policy Analyst will be front and center helping build Ampion’s business while navigating through the regulatory complexities of our industry; namely solar farm communities. We will be looking to research new markets within this space and reaffirm our strategic direction of the Company through deep engagement in the regulatory framework that governs the industry.
Core Responsibilities The Regulatory Policy Analyst will be a key member of the Policy, Utilities and Market Advocacy team at Ampion, which is responsible for tracking all of the many regulatory and legislative developments that have an impact on Ampion’s community solar and distributed energy business. The Regulatory Policy Analyst will report to the VP, Law & Regulatory and will work closely with other senior members of the Ampion team. The Regulatory Policy Analyst would:
- Conduct and maintain a broad assessment of existing and emerging markets for community solar and other distributed generation in order to identify the most advantageous markets for Ampion to consider expanding into over its relevant planning horizon;
- Maintain and continue to develop Ampion’s Regulatory and Policy Intranet, which is the company’s repository of information about all of the community solar programs in which Ampion is currently doing business or plans to enter over our current planning horizon;
- Track developments in new and (along with other members of the team) existing markets and communicate important changes to the rest of the company;
- Assist in Ampion’s participation in important cases and dockets at public utilities commission, including reviewing reporting to the company on the key issues involved, drafting comments supporting Ampion’s position on key policy questions, and coordinating our market development and advocacy efforts with those of like-minded market participants and trade groups;
- Assist other business units in assessing and developing strategies to expand Ampion’s total addressable market, including by considering expansion into business lines in addition to community renewables; and
- Brief functional groups in the company on key market developments.
Other Responsibilities
- Set and track the progress of goals and key responsibilities on a quarterly basis;
- Help maintain Ampion’s Pricing Desk as the essential source of data about community solar bill credits in markets across the country;
- Understand and maintain established OKRs as guiding principles for organizational success;
- Comply with Ampion Written Information Security Policy (WISP), Ampion Employee Guidelines and all other Ampion Information Security Policies and Procedures;
- Take responsibility for any Ampion assets assigned to you;
- Promptly report any security events, incidents or weaknesses to Ampion Security as outlined in the WISP.
What you bring to the team
- Preferable - Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Economics, Engineering or related field
- 1-3 years experience in the energy or closely related industries
- Experience in regulatory or government affairs strongly desired
- Working towards a graduate degree in law, public policy, environmental science or related fields strongly preferred but not required
- Independent, self-starter with ability to drive projects to successful conclusion
- Strong analytical skills, including high level of facility with technical and numerical information
- Deep interest in and commitment to the expansion of renewable energy in the United States
- Exemplary writing and oral presentation skills
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to read and interpret dense legislative and regulatory documents
- Very strong writing skills & High level of numeracy
- Comfort with presenting to groups and other forms of public speaking
- Good command of Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office, especially Sheets and Excel
