Renewable Energy in Maryland
From the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains, Maryland is powering up with Community Solar! Ampion is proud to help Marylanders across the state support local clean energy with guaranteed savings.
In 2024, Maryland set a goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2035. Ampion is helping with this effort by building support for the Community Solar movement in Maryland. We’re helping state residents take advantage of the benefits — at least 10% savings on credits generated by their share of the solar farms, and moving the state closer to its renewable energy goals. Each new subscriber plays an important role, because with no subscribers, there would be no solar farms.
Community Solar in Maryland is supported by a one-bill system: one bill from your utility provider with the 10 or 20% discount on your bill credits applied. Residents, small businesses, and large commercial groups are eligible for Community Solar in Maryland.
Why Ampion?
Enrollment
It’s easy to join Ampion and start benefiting from Community Solar. With the following items in hand, it should take about 10 minutes!
Zip code– we’ll use this to match you with a locally-operated solar farm near you.
Utility account details or a recent utility bill– we use your account info to confirm eligibility, and assign you a solar energy share to match your usage.
Proof of income, in some cases— If you're enrolled in a government assistance program like SNAP, LIHEAP, or Medicaid, for example, you could be eligible for a greater discount. In this case, you could be asked to provide evidence like a LIHEAP bill or a program award letter.
Ampion Billing in Maryland
Credits are applied to your utility bill each month based on your share of the energy produced by the solar farm. The State of Maryland offers "utility consolidated billing" for Community Solar. This means you will pay your utility (for example, BGE, Pepco, or Potomac Edison) for those Community Solar credits at a discounted rate. That's where the savings come in!
In Maryland, the discount is 10%. Think of this as every dollar of credit only costing you 90 cents. So you pay less than what you would have paid without Community Solar.
Sound too good to be true? We hear that a lot! These savings are made possible by state programs designed to increase adoption of renewable energy in Maryland. The result is a win for everyone involved.
