Renewable Energy in Massachusetts

Love that dirty water but hate that dirty energy? Ampion feels the same way. That’s why we knew we had to be here to build support for the Community Solar movement. Headquartered in Boston, Ampion has led the effort to bring clean energy and guaranteed savings to Bay Staters.

Ampion is committed to significantly increasing the availability of solar energy to residents and businesses across the state. With Massachusetts’ target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, Ampion decided to throw our hat in the ring and help spearhead this charge. We are determined to introduce the benefits of Community Solar to residents across the state — 10% guaranteed savings on credits generated by your share of the solar farms and the ability to further help out the environment.

Massachusetts’ renewable energy programs are among the oldest and most innovative in the country. Community Solar here is supported by a dual billing system: one bill from your utility provider with credits, and one from Ampion with the discount on your bill credits. Residents, small businesses, and large commercial groups are eligible for Community Solar in Massachusetts.

Why Ampion?

It’s easy to join Ampion and start benefiting from Community Solar. With the following items in hand, it should take just a few minutes!

Zip code– we’ll use this to match you with a locally-operated solar farm near you.

Utility account details or a recent utility bill– we use your account info to confirm eligibility, and assign you a solar energy allocation to match your usage.

Payment method– a credit card, debit card or checking account is used to simplify the billing process through our auto-pay system, and to confirm your identity to get you signed up.

Ampion Billing in Massachusetts

The State of Massachusetts has created a dual billing Community Solar program. This means you'll receive two bills each month: one from your utility (Eversource, for example), and one from Ampion.

Renewable energy credits are applied to your utility bill each month, based on your share of the energy produced by the solar farm. These credits reduce and in many cases eliminate any payments owed to the utility.

You then pay Ampion at a discount for those credits. This is where the savings come in!

In Massachusetts, the discount is 10%. Think of this as every dollar of credit only costing you 90 cents. So you pay Ampion less than what you would have paid the utility.

Sound too good to be true? We hear that a lot! These savings are made possible by state programs designed to increase adoption of renewable energy in Massachusetts. The result is a win for everyone involved.
