Director, Customer Acquisition & Marketing Operations
Renewable Energy Everywhere, For Everyone
We’re a fast-growing market leader who envisions a world where renewable energy powers our economy and society. Shared and sustainable energy assets, such as solar and wind farms, are the key to this vision, where healthy, inexpensive energy changes the world in which we live. It is a tremendous challenge with huge social benefits, and it is also one of the greatest economic opportunities of our era.
The Director of Customer Acquisition & Marketing Operations owns Ampion’s client-led acquisition service, enabling our renewable energy developer clients to attract and enroll community solar subscribers using Ampion’s tools and processes. This is a hands-on role built around two complementary areas of responsibility: running high-performing customer acquisition campaigns end to end, and improving the marketing operations backbone that lets those campaigns scale across clients and partners.
We’re looking for an experienced direct-response marketer who is fluent in data, comfortable owning the tools and processes behind the funnel, and has the influence skills to guide both internal teams and external partners. You'll also look for ways to use AI tools to make our clients’ marketing initiatives more efficient and scalable. You're comfortable trying out new technology, moving beyond basic AI prompts to improve results and help us adopt smarter, more effective ways of working.
This is a Boston-based position. While we offer flexibility, the role requires a regular presence in our downtown Boston office for team meetings and collaborative sessions.
Core Responsibilities
Campaign Execution and Growth
You own execution. You do what's required across the organization to get customer acquisition campaigns out the door, tracked, and analyzed, always with an emphasis on growth marketing methodologies – testing, measuring, iterating, and improving our approach. This spans the full lifecycle of a campaign:
- Build and launch: Landing page creation and testing, configuring lead forms, and producing the assets a campaign needs to run.
- Measure and analyze: Building reports, then analyzing and summarizing results on an ongoing basis to understand what's working.
- Process improvement: Streamline how new partners and campaigns go live, reduce errors and delays, and create a more consistent experience for clients, partners, and subscribers.
- Optimize subscriber journey: Identify and resolve friction points from the moment a consumer reaches a landing page through sign-up, enrollment, and ongoing participation.
You'll work cross-functionally with our Product, Sales Operations, Development, and Client Success teams to build and manage direct-response customer acquisition campaigns.
Marketing Operations
You make sure the right tools, data, and processes are in place so campaigns launch faster, run cleanly, and report accurately across every client and partner.
- Process and automation: Standardize and automate repeatable workflows, such as campaign setup, QA, and partner onboarding to reduce manual effort, minimize errors, and shorten time to launch.
- Scale and documentation: Turn one-off campaign work into repeatable playbooks and templates so the engine scales across a growing roster of clients and partners.
- Reporting and attribution: Utilize existing reporting infrastructure to build dashboards that tie activities to enrollments, helping the team see what's working without continuously rebuilding reports.
Partner Enablement
Hand in hand with execution, you'll work directly with our clients and the organizations they've partnered with to promote community solar. These are often nonprofit organizations and municipalities that hold real influence over our clients’ target market and have expressed interest in helping spread the word about community solar. Your goal is to help these partners be more effective at reaching their membership base. This requires the ability to influence, plus deep experience in direct-response customer acquisition strategies. If you've spent years leading customer acquisition campaigns and have the knowledge and confidence to bring others along, you’ll be well-positioned to thrive in this role.
Essential Attributes
- Experience: 8 to 10 years in customer acquisition marketing, with agency, consulting, or direct client-management experience. If you've worked in-house but have also taken on consulting work directly, that hands-on client ownership is valuable experience for this role.
- Client management: Previous client or partner management experience is required.
- Acquisition expertise: Expert in customer acquisition and direct-response strategy.
- Marketing operations: Hands-on experience managing martech systems (e.g. marketing automation, CRM, lead routing, reporting), with a track record of streamlining and automating the processes that connect them.
- Growth marketing: Comfortable designing experiments, analyzing results, and generally building a growth engine that drives consistently better results.
- Analytical: Able to draw actionable insights from data; comfortable in spreadsheets and reporting tools. Experience querying data with SQL and BigQuery is a strong plus.
- Systems thinker: You see the whole funnel as a connected system and instinctively look for the process or tool that removes friction and errors.
- AI-first mentality: You put existing AI tools to work and look for ways to scale your impact with them.
Compensation: 125-150K Salary with Stock Options and full benefits
