We are seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the position of California Market Development Manager. This role will lead subscriber acquisition and market development in California, with an initial focus on the Southern California Edison (SCE) service territory.

You will leverage your extensive relationships and relevant work experiences as you build and manage strategic partnerships, originate and close small commercial opportunities, and coordinate cross-functional acquisition efforts to achieve Ampion’s subscriber and kWh targets. You will work directly with community partners, traditional channel partners, and key commercial subscriber segments to expand Ampion’s presence in the California market.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Focus on small commercial customer acquisition within the Southern California Edison (SCE) utility service territory.
  • Drive revenue growth by originating leads and closing deals with national/regional small commercial subscribers in the designated territory.
  • Construct detailed go-to-market plans and acquisition tactics for California SCE; including customer segmentation, target markets, priority partners, acquisition tactics, product terms, offers, and subscriber and partner agreements.
  • Coordinate closely with Marketing, Direct Sales, Indirect Sales, and other Ampion stakeholders to execute California acquisition initiatives.

  • Establish clear KPIs and metrics to ensure success. You are capable of accurately forecasting on weekly, monthly and quarterly intervals and can manage your business to the achievement of sales targets.
  • Attend and participate in state and local industry and regulatory meetings and conferences
  • Work cross functionally with Marketing, Direct Sales, Indirect Sales, Sales Operations, Billing, Product & Technology, Accounting and Customer Care teams to ensure subscriber and channel satisfaction.
  • Regularly analyze operational and commercial performance data—including allocations, acquisition performance, churn, and other key drivers—to identify risks, opportunities, and actions that improve outcomes for Ampion, our clients, and our subscribers.

Education, Skill, and Experience:

  • 5+ years of industry experience required in community solar, solar, competitive/retail energy or renewable energy
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with direct sales and/or channel development & management
  • Demonstrated success selling to small commercial customers and developing strategic partnerships.
  • Experience selling competitive/retail energy, sustainability, or ESG-related solutions is desirable.
  • Deep knowledge of California community solar programs and SCE program requirements strongly preferred.
  • Highly tenacious, persistent, and results-oriented.
  • Residing in California and/or be committed to spending significant time in the market
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves, understand the details of Ampion’s business, and drive the change together with the team
  • Comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of an early-stage startup; eager to lend a hand cross-functionally as required
  • Service leadership mentality of low ego and high empathy, committed to building a culture and organization capable of autonomy and growth
  • Deeply collaborative, but also possessing strength of conviction and ability to challenge and resolve competing points of view in transparent, constructive fashion
  • Impeccable communication and interpersonal skills
